Outdoor Learning & Forest Schools
Forest School and Outdoor Learning aims to promote the holistic development of all pupils. It helps them grow in confidence and independence as a result of the freedom, time and space they are given in their learning. Our sessions in the natural environment support play, exploration and supported risk taking. As the pupils gain confidence and improve their self esteem this can impact on their emotional and mental well-being.
At Ysgol yr Holl Saint - All Saints' School, we are fortunate to have a very well resourced Forest School area which is undergoing constant development. We have recently planted over 400 trees to develop and enhance the school campus and have added a new outdoor learning shelter into the forest school.
Our pupils have access to appropriate outdoor learning clothing and wellingtons which supports the philosophy of there 'being no such thing as bad weather'. Staff in school are Forest School trained, and in turn plan and coordinate all aspects of the Outdoor Learning and Forest School programme.
Woodland Trust
We have been very fortunate to work with the Woodland Trust recently to develop our Forest School and Outdoor Learning spaces across the school campus. This work has involved us planting over 400 trees to develop and promote spaces for nature. Every pupil in the school had the opportunity to plant a tree and everyone is excited to care for these saplings and watch them grow over the coming years.
In addition to our work with the Woodland Trust, we have planted an orchard on the school grounds and look forward to seeing the apples, plums and pears grow in future years.
