Curriculum for Wales

Our Curriculum Vision

At  Ysgol yr Holl Saint - All Saints’ School we are committed to providing a curriculum which is underpinned by the Four Purposes and aligned to the Curriculum for Wales 2022.  Our curriculum is bespoke to All Saints’ school: it is rich in learning within our locality,  with current global issues and it adheres to our Christian values.  We aim to develop our learners to be respectful of our world, be curious, enquiring, and able to think critically about their learning.  They will encounter themes and topics which will be meaningful, inspiring, engaging, nurturing and celebratory.

Experiences and enquiry will drive the curriculum and give opportunities for learners to develop skills which will enable them to be effective learners today, in further education, employment or training in the future.

Our curriculum goes beyond a series of lessons: it is everything learners experience in pursuit of the Four Purposes; a multi-disciplinary approach where links are made to many of the Areas of Learning and Experience underpinned by cross-curricular and integral skills.

Curriculum Rationale

Our Curriculum Rationale was adopted by the Governing Body in the Summer Term 2022 following extensive consultation with pupils, parents/carers and other wider stakeholders.

The rationale summarises the curriculum development approach undertaken by the school and how the Curriculum for Wales will be implemented within Ysgol yr Holl Saint - All Saints' School from September 2022.

Accelerated Reader

We use Accelerated Reader (AR) as a motivational reading tool from Year 3 upwards.  Year 1 and 2 pupils may be added to the system throughout the year at the class teacher's discretion.

Accelerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice.

Your child picks a book at their own level and reads it at their own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer at school - passing the quiz is an indication that your child has understood what has been read.

AR gives both pupils and teachers feedback based on the quiz results which the teacher then uses to help the child set targets and ongoing reading practice.

The school has a comprehensive AR library that ensures the pupils read a broad and diverse range of texts.   This quiz result is then shared with the teacher. We are working to create parent/carer access to see the results over the 2024/25 school year.

Renaissance Home Connect

At the start of the year, your child will bring home a letter that contains all the details needed to set up an account.

Once you have set up your account, you will be able to see your child's AR quiz results and be able to see all the texts that they have read.

If you have any questions about this, please discuss this with your child's class teacher via the school office or Seesaw.
